Jon Thompson

Jon Thompson joined the Avista team in 2011.  After serving multiple technology roles at the company, he is now the acting Smart Cities and Utility Enterprise Architect for Avista Corp., primarily focused on business, technology, resources, and digital transformation strategies for next generation utilities.  Jon is directly involved in Avista’s research and innovation projects and commitments towards the future, including Spokane’s Smart City initiative, Urbanova, advanced metering infrastructure, network communications, cyber security, mobility, and clean energy projects (e.g., micro-transactive grid, smart building controls, energy efficiency, energy storage, DER integration-valuation-optimization, shared energy economy, transactive energy).

Jon has over 18-years in a number of high-tech industries, including the semiconductor manufacturing industry, where Jon worked as a final test technician for copper wafer plating and etching technologies at Semitool (now Applied Materials).  Jon received his electrical engineering degree from Eastern Washington University and is currently pursuing a dual degree in Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA).
