Brian O’Hara joined NRECA in October 2017 as Senior Director Regulatory Issues focusing on telecommunications and broadband issues. In this position, he will develop and direct association regulatory policy on telecom and broadband issues for over 900 electric cooperatives, many of whom are offering, deploying or exploring broadband business opportunities. Brian has more than 20 years of telecommunications and broadband industry experience. Prior to joining NRECA, Brian served as Legislative Director -Telecommunications, Technology & Water at the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) representing over 200 state public utility commissioners in all fifty states and the U.S. territories. Brian also spent six years with the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) – The Rural Broadband Association, including three years in NTCA’s Legal and Industry Division before moving into the Government Affairs Department. Prior to that, Brian spent four years with the National Exchange Carrier Association (NECA) Washington DC office. Brian graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science, and completed all course work for a Masters in Government at Johns Hopkins University.
