UTC Telecom & Technology 2019 offers education and training opportunities in a wide range of topics with Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) offered for all sessions listed on the UTC University link below. Covering every topic from Analytics to Telecom, our eight tracks provide a platform for industry thought leaders and subject experts to deliver up-to-date, important industry trends and information. Join us in Fort Worth for a week of education, networking, demonstrations and even a little fun!

  • Security

    Security underpins all technology – whether Information Technology (IT) or Operations Technology (OT). This track will examine key issues from an Operations Security perspective, featuring utility security practitioners that have made the transition from Information Security to OT cybersecurity.
  • IT/OT

    Traditional Information and Operations Technology are on a collision course.  IT/OT Convergence is many-faceted. The technology issues on their own are nearly intractable. But technology is only the tip of the iceberg. This track will present utilities and vendors that have faced the IT/OT challenge in the face and won. Or lost.
  • Distributed Energy Resources

    DERs are transforming how customers think about energy, and transforming how utilities think about their grids. This track will feature utilities that have experienced DERs in their services areas, sharing lessons learned.
  • Fiber, Joint Use & Broadband

    Fiber, Joint Use and Broadband focus on getting data from where it is observed to where it is needed for aggregation, correlation, and retention. This track will will showcase utilities and vendors that are deploying communications today that will support data flows a decade or more from now.
  • Telecom for Grid Modernization

    Utility telecommunications enable digital technologies that in turn enable utilities to address their mission critical and business objectives.  Each utility’s telecommunications challenges are unique – affected by demographics, geography, industry, economics, even endangered species. This track will focus on the experience of utilities and vendors in meeting specific telecommunications requirements to enable utilities to meet their operational, business, and customer objectives.
  • Policy & Advocacy

    Utility systems are perhaps the most complex and reliable machines ever devised by mankind.  Outside of our industry, the term utility means reliable service.  But the complexity is well-hidden, known only to those who make these industrial control systems work. Thus, those who make policies and laws are often unaware of that complexity, making development of policies that enable, not hinder, utilities’ ability to provide reliable, secure and affordable service challenging. This track will discuss proposed and current regulations that affect utilities’ ability to do business optimally.
  • Networks for Work

    Utilities are requiring more and more out of their networks in order to no only maintain their systems but grow their businesses. Not only are networks required to bring back data to forecast demand, but also to identify grid trouble spots, and even to understand their customers behavior. This track will examine how utilities’ networks are evolving to handle new demands for data, automated control and utility business intelligence.
  • Water & Gas

    Smart Cities need more than just a smart grid.  Communities can tremendously reduce their costs through smarter use and tracking of water and gas. Abundant and fresh water is key to an acceptable quality of life. Technologies that apply to a smart electric grid can apply to water and gas distribution as well – but not without a few twists. This track will feature utilities that are successfully using new technologies to improve their utilization of water and gas.
